We've flown up to 1/2 mile using one of these with just an omni antenna on the receiver!

Will plug in to the 5V ReadyMadeRC regulator as long as you rearrange the wiring order on the mini plug by lifting up on the plastic tabs with a hobby knife to remove the wires, and reinserting them in the correct locations
